Episode 1: A Toxic Friend Group

We are literally two minutes into You Maniac Episode 1, and I am already ready to pack my bags and exit this narrative. We open at an art exhibition where Moth is treated like walking eye candy before the show throws us straight into a bathroom make-out session—because apparently, public restrooms are the official romance capitals of this universe. How hot. How completely unsanitary.

Let’s be real right now. We aren’t doing any stiff, formal analysis today. We are looking directly at why everyone in this show is a pain in the *bleeeep*, starting with the supposed side characters who are carrying enough red flags to start a parade.

Ten and Pun Are the Real Red Flags

Let’s talk about Ten first, because oh my god, Ten. Ten, your obsession is loud, but your actual moves are completely dead in the water. All that intense staring and zero action toward your crush on Pun? Painful to watch. Not cute at all. You are also giving off this immature stalker vibe that we all had in our teens—or even now, during concerts, and during fan meets, and during…ehem, sorry, I got carried away. Back to Ten. Ten, oh, Ten. Do you want to be a wingman? Do you NEED a wingman? Do you need better advice, preferably from a psychiatrist? Do you need to go touch grass? You tire me, and we're not even close yet.

Leaving your table without telling anyone because your crush rejected you? Very mature, Ten. And then you wonder why Dr. Pun acts like you’re invisible.

Speaking of Pun, he is silently but loudly broadcasting his feelings for Moth while playing the martyr. Pun is out here dropping off food and babysitting Moth's life under the guise of friendship. It is exhausting.

Moth Is One Confused Diva

Realistically, I wouldn’t like a friend like Moth. He’s too much. Too sensitive. Too picky. Too... everything. He’s this close to being called a narcissistic bitch (aka sassy) which Est plays beautifully.

Getting cornered in a public restroom by a stranger refusing to leave until he gets your socials, and you get… curious instead of calling security? Psychotic diva behavior. And I’m sure you’re nodding your head right now, agreeing with the diva comment, but conveniently ignoring the adjective before the word diva.

Why is everyone interested in this queen bee?
Why, Regina, why?

Est is an absolute babe, but his character’s charm—and let me know when you find it—completely confuses me.

Dean Is A Walking Disaster (With Good Visuals)

Dean meanwhile. We all have a Dean in our friend group who is either charming, a jerk, or a charming jerk. Take your pick. Don’t get me wrong, he is also too much. Too tiring.

If someone else played this role, he might be getting cursed at already. But William has a pretty face so I guess that makes boundary-stomping totally fine? (Spoiler:It doesn’t. Dean is a total SOB about personal space).

He spends all night watching Moth, then rejects a random hookup right before seeing Moth off. But I get that my man Dean has a high body count because he’s hot, he’s charming, he’s a babieeee. Wait no, that’s William, and I’m projecting. Moving on.

Honestly? Dean and Moth are both stressful to watch. Actually, scratch that. All of them are stressful to watch, and I am leaving this friend group. Preferably now. That's actually it. Babye.

Take a breath, grab your iced coffee, and let that secondhand friend-group trauma settle.

Together We Stand, Together We Fall

Look, despite all my complaints, the WilliamEst chemistry is sizzling, and I am sat. I think? It’s only the first episode, so I can do this. Fighting! Let’s survive this exhausting group of friends together. Until next episode!
