Source Material & Novel Background

Who Said JJ Doesn't Get Along? (Original Thai Title: ไหนใครว่าเจเจไม่ถูกกัน?) by My feline follows Jay and Jinn, lifelong rivals who have spent thirteen years competing in everything from grades to flirting. After a car race results in Jay sustaining a broken hand, their mothers—who are best friends—force them to cohabitate so Jinn can act as Jay’s caregiver. During this period, Jay begins experiencing vivid ‘visions’ of a future where they are lovers. He eventually realizes these aren’t just dreams, but memories of a tragic past life where their rivalry led to Jinn’s mother’s death and Jinn’s own premature passing at age forty-three. By discovering Jin’s secret feelings in a ‘Death Note’ diary and using his supernatural insight, Jay prevents the original tragedies from reoccurring. He saves Jinn’s mother and reconciles Jinn with his estranged father, Chet. The story concludes with the two transcending their ‘JJ’ legend of hate to become a devoted couple, altering their destiny for a happy, healthy life together.

Central Themes & Tone

The novel explores the thin line between hate and obsession, utilizing the ‘enemies to lovers’ trope to examine childhood trauma. A central theme is the ‘second chance’—the idea that knowledge of past mistakes provides the power to heal. The narrative also delves into the weight of parental abandonment, specifically through Jinn’s resentment toward his father. The tone is initially high-energy and bratty, filled with comedic banter and petty competition. However, it shifts into a somber, melancholic melodrama as the supernatural memories of grief and illness take hold. This emotional gravity is eventually balanced by a redemptive, warm resolution centered on domestic bliss and mutual protection.

Drama Adaptation

The drama adaptation, titled Head 2 Head by GMMTV, stars Sea Dechchart as J and Keen Suvijak as Jinn. The series brings the vibrant fashion-student aesthetic to life, emphasizing the visual contrast between the two leads. The adaptation maintains the core ‘JJ’ dynamic within the competitive world of design while leaning into the meta-commentary of university peers who ‘ship’ the rivals. It effectively translates the novel’s transition from lighthearted campus antics to the heavy, time-bending supernatural elements that define the story’s emotional climax.
